December 2020 - January 2021

A series of updates on Tandem, our device management enabler, as well as Teltonika devices, and our systems and network.

Tandem

Trinity Android Device management app. Tandem is a remote control and management app specifically designed to be able to monitor and control Mobirint 4+ devices. Currently it can only be used specifically for this device, however, that will change. One of our customers is already using it to send newer versions of the companies app to remote testers.

Tandem can be integrated with Connect, but to accomplish that. Connect needed a host of new features too:

  • Schedule recurring reports from the devices.
  • Device data lens (called "Data Model" in Smart) was added.
  • Device communication deadline contracts (called "Comms Interval" in Smart).
  • Device commands (called "Jobs" in Smart) was added.
  • Zero-Touch enrollment for Android devices. Integrates with Tandem companion Android app and potentially with next-generation Teltonika units.
  • Most of the library components have been version bumped, and for the first time, we now have some libraries (notably Pandas) that require that we update the Python Virtual Environment to at least Python 3.7.
  • An image upload API is now available to Android only. Its immediate function is to request and then display screenshots of a remote Android device on the Connect Platform..
  • Bulk updates can now be performed on devices.
  • The migration of SIMs from Smart to Connect now honours the SIMs state during the migration.
  • Easy-to-use single SIM migration functionality was added.
  • Speed, responsiveness, and user experience have all been enhanced greatly.

Teltonika Device Updates

  1. The TRB1-series agents were updated, and we added support for One-Wire temperature monitoring and a threshold events generator.
  2. The TRB2-series agents updated and released
  3. The RUTX12 agent is under active development, and we are testing remote FW upgrade capabilities at the moment.

A dedicated agent was released to NNS to help them complete a proof of concept to their clients, and work is ongoing to help them craft a robust solution using the Teltonika devices.

System and Network

The Johannesburg DC has been upgraded allowing for increased speed and throughput, with confirmation on the same for the CPT DC pending. Both the JHB and CPT DC’s are undergoing configuration and updating.
